A Vermont man was being held on $500,000 bail in the Cattaraugus County Jail for multiple weapons charges after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Machias Monday night, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the accident reported at about 8 p.m. Monday on Route 242.
Sheriff’s officials said Thomas A. Ledford, 36, of South Woodstock Vermont had in his possession five handguns without a New York State pistol permit and a rifle that wasn’t compliant with the New York Safe Act. They also found he had some marijuana.
He was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon and a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.
Ledford was arraigned in Town of Machias Court and remanded to jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
